What does Yoga mean to you?
Yoga means connecting with something deep inside you that you know is bigger than you, wiser than you but very much part of you. It means getting in touch with your true self.
How would you describe your style of Yoga?
A gentle, rounded Hatha yoga that flows with the breath. Tips and options are offered along the way so that everyone can practice at their own level. Class themes are varied to encourage a fresh approach to the postures, inspire the way you practice on the mat and take the lessons learned into the way you live your life off the mat. Classes sometimes include breathing practices and meditation and they always end with a deep relaxation.
What is your favourite Yoga pose and why?
It has to be Child's Pose. I rarely teach a session without it. It is such a lovely restorative posture that soothes the body, calms the mind and helps bring you inward.
An interesting/quirky fact about yourself and your experience?
During my Teacher Training, I was sat on the banks of the Ganges river in India thinking about whether I was really going to teach yoga. A nearby Sadhu (holy man) gave me a large stone from the river saying "Shiva Lingam. Guru. Guru!" (he spoke no English). It was like something out of an Indiana Jones film! I took the heavy oval stone back to the ashram I was staying in, laid it at my Guru's feet and was told that I would teach in and run an Ashram in Europe. I have no plans to do this just yet, but watch this space...!
